Paleolithic Diet

By Baron Austin at 2010-12-21 23:26:23
The paleolithic diet is also not about eliminating carbs. It's about eliminating the bad carbs that come from grain and other high-glycemic foods and having a healthy level of carbohydrate intake per day. These low carb diets often advocate getting rid of ALL carbs, including fruits and vegetables. The paleodiet does not recommend this at all, as eliminating these foods would severely rob you of important nutrients.

The Paleolithic diet is primarily made up of lean meats, seafood, fresh fruits, and fresh vegetables. These are all natural foods that our ancestors thrived on for many centuries. Every one of the essential dietary needs is present in these foods: vitamins, fats, protein, carbohydrates, antioxidants, and phytosterols - all of which lead to an ideal weight, optimum health, and peak athletic performance.

There were no pesticides or herbicides in the plants consumed by hunter-gatherer societies. Their plants were not genetically altered. There was no contamination in the fish they caught. Their meats, not being domesticated, were leaner. Much of what they ate was uncooked, preserving the vitamins and minerals contained within. The hunter-gatherer lifestyle by definition necessitated moving around to find enough food in a sufficient variety to survive, so along with a wide variety of healthy plant foods and lean meats, our ancestors got plenty of exercise, keeping them well-muscled and regular.

One of the biggest factors that causes acne is oil based cosmetics. Acne that is caused from cosmetics is usually found in people that do not have acne problems except when they use cosmetics. This is a type of acne that will not have any scaring effect but it is unattractive just the same. If you happen to get this type of acne then stop using the cosmetic that is the problem.

The Paleolithic diet refers to the diet taken by human beings before the arrival of agriculture, technology and civilization. In short, it is a diet of the Stone Age which consisted of mainly lean red meat and vegetables. In this type of diet animal meat is consumed in large quantities and 45 to 65% of the energy needed by the body is derived from it.

Though some ardent supporters swear by the it, many question the safety of the Paleo diet, and wonder if it is truly healthy. After all, our Paleolithic ancestors lived short, brutal lives that were rife with misery and trauma. The wonders of agricultural development helped forge human civilization. Famine is not anywhere near the problem it used to be in earlier times, in large part because of human ingenuity to foster better advances in agricultural science.

Another reason for modifying it, which may or may not be valid, is that there was some controversy (still ongoing to this day) over who influenced the contents of the pyramid. For example, it has been suggested that certain food production organizations may have put political pressure on the USDA to include their products, or at the very least to reposition those products to a place lower in the pyramid (where it would suggest eating more of those products).

As calories, fats make up approximately 35-40% of the total dietary caloric intake of the Paleolithic Diet. These fats consist primarily of monosaturated and polyunsaturated fats. High levels of Omega 3 fatty acids are present in the polyunsaturated fats such that the ration between Omega 6 and Omega 3 fatty acids is less than 4:1. Saturated fat make up less than 40% of the total fat supply because tablefare consisted primarly of lean meat and fish.
