Brain aneurysm is basically a bulge in one of the arteries in the brain. This ballooning can leak or rupture, resulting in bleeding taking place into the brain. This usually takes place between the brain and tissues surrounding it. This type of hemorrhagic stroke is known as subarachnoid hemorrhage.

The symptoms of a brain aneurysm forming can be hard to spot. Almost 90% of the people that have an undamaged aneurysm do not have a clue that something is wrong. This is the group that is in the most danger of being permanently injured, or worse, die, when the aneurysm burst.

A ruptured brain aneurysm leaks blood into the spinal fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord causing a chemical reaction in the blood and the surrounding areas of the brain. This type of a ruptured cerebral aneurysm, also known as a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is one of the causes of the severe headaches.

If an aneurysm ruptures, it can be fatal and the person would need medical attention right away. However, it has been seen that usually aneurysms do not grow big and are discovered when the doctor is checking the patient for some other health problem.

A patient must learn a whole new world of things to do. It is not fair to either the patient or the caregiver to expect the caregiver to give up their life so they can serve the patient like the slaves of old used to do.We, the victims of a ruptured cerebral aneurysm, must do our very best to regain as much of our lives back as we can. The other serious complication is that the blood deposited in the subarachnoid space can cause otherwise healthy arteries passing through this space to go into spasm. The spasm decreases blood-flow to the parts of the brain ordinarily nourished by these arteries and thereby inflicts additional damage. Or, said another way, a blocked artery causes a new stroke, this time of the non-bleeding type. For reasons that are not entirely understood, these spasms of the arteries do not occur within the first few days after the initial hemorrhage.

Aneurysms that result from an infection in the arterial wall are called mycotic aneurysms. Cancer-related aneurysms are often associated with primary or metastatic tumors of the head and neck. It is known that men over the age of 60, and younger men with a brother or father who has had an aneurysm, are at risk. It is unclear why a person develops a brain aneurysm. It appears that aneurysms are related to an absence of a muscular layer that makes up part of the blood vessels that over time stretches and thins.

If you are aware of Aortic Aneurysms in your family history it is important to know that it is a concern for high risk. The majority of Aortic aneurysms occur in the abdomen. Causes of aortic aneurysms can include tobacco use, high blood pressure that is not controlled, infection in the aorta (vascular), previous injuries to the aorta and traumatic injuries. Another important complication can occur once the aortic aneurysms occur and that is blood clots.
